Man arrested for assaulting elderly individual in Kathmandu's Basantapur

Kathmandu. Police have arrested a young man for assaulting an elderly person in the Basantapur area of Kathmandu. The Kathmandu District Police Range took the individual into custody after a video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread concern and public outcry.

The viral video shows the young man verbally abusing and physically assaulting the elderly person. Kathmandu Metropolitan City police officers present at the scene attempted to intervene and resolve the dispute. However, the video clearly shows the young man acting aggressively even in the presence of the municipal police.

The motive behind the incident remains unclear. While the video shows the aggressive individual displaying an identification card during the altercation, police have not yet disclosed what the document was. 

Police stated that the arrested individual is currently being questioned and further investigation is underway.
