MP Harka Sampang Criticizes Government's Decision to Accept 28 Billion Loan

Kathmandu. Harka Sampang, Chairman of the Shram Sanskriti Party and Member of the House of Representatives, has publicly expressed his stance on the government's decision to accept a loan of nearly 28 billion.

In a video posted on his Facebook page on Sunday evening, he stated that the purpose of the accepted loan must be disclosed. He said, 'If the Government of Nepal continues to make decisions happily among four or five ministers just because they have a majority, the country will not run well. The government should not operate that way. Every matter must be approved by the Parliament.'

'Why is the loan being taken in the sovereign people's Parliament? For what purpose, under what headings, how, and by when will it be spent? The government must come to the Parliament with a breakdown, and the Finance Minister should come. Otherwise, it will not be acceptable,' he said.

He further stated that loans taken arbitrarily would not be considered as taken for the country. He also reiterated their stance that foreign loans should not be taken.

Based on the proposal of the Ministry of Finance, the government will take a loan of 40 million dollars from the Asian Development Bank and 50 million dollars from the World Bank for the Digital Nepal Transformation Project. Similarly, the government has decided to accept a concessional loan facility of a total of 95 million dollars for the Sustainable and Inclusive Finance Project.

According to the current exchange rate, the total amount of all loan assistance is equivalent to 28 billion Nepali Rupees.
