Federation of Nepali Journalists General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal Resigns from Press Council Board

Kathmandu. Ram Prasad Dahal, General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, resigned from his position as a board member of the Press Council Nepal on Sunday.

He stated that while he remained active in fulfilling the Council's objectives to the best of his study, judgment, and capacity, he has decided to resign from the board in light of the changing circumstances.

'I have concluded that it is no longer morally appropriate for me to remain in this position given the country's changing environment. Therefore, I resign from the post effective from today. I pledge to continue supporting the Council's lawful and positive initiatives from the outside in the future,' he mentioned in his resignation letter submitted to Council Chairman Dr. Kumar Sharma Acharya.

He recalled his internal efforts to establish order by operating the Council according to laws and regulations, including addressing issues such as meeting procedures, financial discipline, injustices and discrimination in newspaper classification, and opposing actions where media and journalists were targeted under the guise of a code of conduct, harassed, or referred to the Cyber Bureau for criminal charges.

He also expressed his hope that such issues would not need to be raised from the outside in the coming days.
