Home Minister Subhan Gurung Submits Written Response to Supreme Court Regarding KP Sharma Oli's Arrest

Kathmandu. Home Minister Subhan Gurung has submitted a written response to the Supreme Court regarding the arrest of CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Minister Gurung submitted the response on Friday in relation to the habeas corpus writ filed by Oli, who claims his arrest was illegal.

In his submission, Minister Gurung stated that the arrest warrant was issued by authorized officials in accordance with the law, following the recommendations of an inquiry commission and the filing of a formal complaint.

Gurung emphasized that it is incorrect to claim that Oli was arrested for wrongful or other improper reasons.

Gurung further stated, 'The claim that the arrest and detention were illegal is not legally sound, as the investigation was conducted in compliance with prevailing laws, following due legal process and with the permission of a competent court. Therefore, the writ petition is liable to be dismissed.'

On Chait 16, the Supreme Court had sought a response from the government during the hearing of Oli's habeas corpus petition.

The government led by Balen Shah had decided to implement the inquiry report led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, which was formed to investigate the 'Gen-Z' movement that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24. Consequently, former Prime Minister Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested.
