India and Nepal Sign MOU for Seven High-Impact Community Development Projects

Kathmandu. The Embassy of India, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration of the Government of Nepal, and relevant implementing agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday for the implementation of seven High-Impact Community Development Projects. These projects, supported by a grant from the Government of India, will focus on the education, health, and agriculture sectors with a total estimated cost of 473 million Nepalese Rupees.

Under these projects, cold storage facilities will be constructed in Madhyabindu Municipality of Nawalpur and Laligurans Municipality of Terhathum. Additionally, the agreement includes the construction of a school building, hostel, and canteen for Janabal Secondary School in Gharapjhong Rural Municipality, Mustang. 

New school buildings will be constructed for Shree Kalika Primary School in Kailali (Sudurpashchim), Shree Kasturi Secondary School in Dolpa (Karnali), and Shree Jan Kalyan Secondary School in Banke (Lumbini). The construction of a birthing center in Paroha Municipality of Rautahat (Madhesh Province) is also included under this plan.

All seven projects will be implemented through local levels and government institutions, including the respective municipalities and rural municipalities of Nepal. Since 2003, the Government of India has initiated 598 such community development projects across all seven provinces of Nepal in the sectors of health, education, agriculture, water supply, sanitation, and public utilities. Of these, 506 projects have been completed, while the remaining are in various stages of implementation.

These projects, which serve as an important link in the multi-faceted cooperation between Nepal and India, are expected to contribute to the infrastructure development of Nepal.
