22 Vehicles Penalized for Excessive Emissions in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. During a special pollution inspection conducted on the Thankot road section, a key gateway to Kathmandu, 22 vehicles were penalized for emitting smoke beyond permissible standards. The action was taken during a surprise check carried out by a joint team from the Department of Environment, Babarmahal, and the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office on Wednesday afternoon.

Out of 53 vehicles tested on the Thankot road section, nearly half were found to have exceeded the environmental standards set by the government. The technical team measured the smoke emission levels of the vehicles using specialized equipment. Traffic police have imposed fines and taken action against the drivers of all 22 vehicles that failed the test in accordance with the law.

With air pollution levels in the Kathmandu Valley reaching critical levels recently, the Department of Environment and the Traffic Police have jointly increased surveillance on vehicles operating on the roads.
