Supreme Court Issues Show Cause Notice Regarding Status of KC and Aryal as Lawmakers

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in response to a writ petition demanding that Nepali Congress's Arjun Narsingh KC and CML's Padma Aryal be barred from performing their duties as members of parliament.

The court declined to issue an interim order to stop both individuals from acting as lawmakers. However, it has ordered that the petition be prioritized for hearing.

In the writ filed by petitioner Khajanti Mahato, Supreme Court Justice Shrikant Paudel on Wednesday ordered the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the Election Commission, and others to submit reasons for the election of the two individuals under the proportional representation system.

Petitioner Mahato filed the writ against KC and Aryal, alleging that they have repeatedly benefited from positions under the Khas Arya cluster. Mahato had sought an interim order to prevent them from serving as lawmakers, arguing that both have repeatedly held ministerial positions and have undermined the proportional representation system.
