CPN-UML Secretariat Meeting Commences Amidst Political Tensions

Kathmandu. The Secretariat meeting of the CPN-UML has begun. The meeting, which was called for 11 AM on Tuesday, started about an hour late at the party office.

This is the second Secretariat meeting of the CPN-UML after party Chairman KP Sharma Oli was arrested on charges of suppressing the Jengji movement. Last Saturday, a Secretariat meeting was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal' on the same day Oli was arrested, where the party decided on protest programs.

During the Jengji movement, Oli, who was the Prime Minister, and Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, who was the Home Minister, were arrested by the police from their respective residences on Saturday morning. The Kathmandu District Court permitted the police on Sunday to keep them in custody for five days for investigation. Furthermore, a show-cause order has also been issued regarding the habeas corpus petition.

The CPN-UML has been criticizing this arrest as illegal and retaliatory. It is reported that today's meeting will discuss the developed political situation and the policy the party will adopt, and necessary decisions will be made.
