CPN-UML and Nepali Congress Protest Jointly in Kanchanpur Over Arrests of Top Leaders

Dhangadhi. Both the CPN (UML) and the Nepali Congress held a joint protest in Kanchanpur against the arrest of CPN (UML) Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

Despite being on different political sides, the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML in Kanchanpur submitted a protest letter to the District Administration Office on Sunday, terming the arrests of their top leaders as a planned and undemocratic move.

Leaders and cadres from both parties, who gathered in front of the District Administration Office, chanted slogans against the government and demanded the immediate and honorable release of the two leaders. The memorandum submitted to the government through the District Administration Office after the protest alleged that the leaders were arrested based on political vendetta.

Speaking at the protest program, leaders from both parties stated that the government has ridiculed democracy and chosen the path of suppression instead of political dialogue.
