New Administration Led by Mayor Balen Shah Initiates Probe into Assets of Public Officials Since 1991

Kathmandu. The newly formed government led by Mayor Balen Shah has taken a historic step towards good governance and corruption control. The first cabinet meeting held on Friday decided to investigate the assets of political leaders and high-ranking officials who have held public office from B.S. 2048 (1991 AD) until the present day.

This significant plan was put forward as part of the '100 Agendas for Governance Reforms' approved by the government on the same Friday. The government announced that a powerful, fully authorized asset investigation committee will be formed within the next 15 days to implement this decision. Point number 43 of the '100 Agendas for Governance Reforms' mentions the formation of such an investigation committee to end the widespread corruption, asset concealment, and impunity in the country.

The government plans to proceed with the investigation process in two phases. The decision states that in the first phase, asset details of key political officeholders and high-ranking officials who held public office from 2062/63 (2005/06 AD) to 2082/83 (2025/26 AD) will be collected, verified, and investigated. Likewise, the second phase will investigate the assets of those who held public office from 2048 (1991 AD) to 2061/62 (2004/05 AD).
