Former Finance Minister Barshaman Pun Applauds New Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle for Implementing Key Economic Reforms

Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister and leader of the CPN (UML), Barshaman Pun Ananta, has thanked the newly appointed Finance Minister, Dr. Swarnim Wagle, for taking steps toward economic reform based on the concept he previously put forward.

On Saturday, Pun openly praised Wagle's commitment to implementing the recommendations of the 'High-Level Economic Sector Reform Suggestion Commission' via social media platform Facebook.

When Pun was the Finance Minister, he announced the formation of the commission through the budget for the fiscal year 081/082 to identify potential sectors for high economic growth and to advance a new phase of economic reform and create an investment-friendly environment for economic development.

Accordingly, the commission was formed under the leadership of former Finance Minister Rameswor Khanal. The commission suggested the scrapping of 15 laws and the Revenue Investigation Department, citing them as obstacles to investment growth and economic improvement. Upon assuming office on Friday after being appointed Finance Minister, Minister Wagle decided to implement those suggestions.

 'As Finance Minister, I had announced the formation of the 'High-Level Economic Sector Reform Suggestion Commission' to study the resolution of long-term challenges in the economy and achieve the goal of a new phase of economic reform through the budget for the fiscal year 081/082', Pun wrote. 'I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the newly appointed Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle for deciding to scrap 15 irrelevant laws and the Revenue Investigation Department, which are existing obstacles to economic development, based on the suggestions in the report prepared by the commission formed under the leadership of former Finance Minister Rameswor Khanal as per that announcement.' 

Pun also expressed his commitment, as a former finance minister and Member of Parliament, to support the government's sincere efforts for the country's economic development.
