Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Celebrates 55th Independence and National Day with Grand Ceremony

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu hosted a grand ceremony to mark its 55th Independence and National Day. The Vice President of Nepal, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, attended the special event as the chief guest.

The program saw a large presence of ambassadors from various countries in Nepal, heads of diplomatic missions, ministers, political leaders, government officials, civil society representatives, and the Bangladeshi community. Addressing the ceremony, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal, Mohammad Safiqur Rahman, paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during Bangladesh's nine-month-long liberation war.

He recalled and praised the moral and material support provided by the Government of Nepal and the Nepali people during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He also committed to further strengthening bilateral relations with Nepal in areas such as trade, investment, energy, culture, education, and tourism in the coming days.

Ambassador Rahman congratulated the new government formed in Nepal under the leadership of Prime Minister Balen Shah and expressed confidence that cooperation between the two countries would reach new heights during his tenure. Furthermore, he provided information about the plans and initiatives of the new government formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, stating readiness to work together with Nepal and the international community.

During the ceremony, the Ambassador announced that Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, has been put forward as a candidate for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly for the term 2027–2028, and sought Nepal's support.

In the middle of the ceremony, Vice President Yadav and Ambassador Rahman jointly cut the anniversary cake. Both exchanged toasts, wishing for the unbreakable friendship between the two friendly nations. On this occasion, the Vice President and the Ambassador also held a separate brief discussion on matters of bilateral interest.
