Weather Alert Issued for Nepal: Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms, and Hail Expected

Kathmandu. Nepal is once again expecting weather disturbances, with rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, and hailstorms predicted across many parts of the country starting today (Friday).

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, increased cloud cover is expected on Friday and Saturday, prompting a request for the public to take necessary precautions due to the anticipated rainfall. Department spokesperson Dinkar Kayastha stated that cloud cover will increase from the evening, with rain expected in various locations starting Friday.

Rain was recorded in some areas on Thursday evening, including Gorkha, Sindhupalchok, Kaski, Lamjung, Sankhuwasabha, Khotang, and Nuwakot, and this trend is expected to slightly intensify starting tonight.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the central office on Thursday evening, Friday will see partial cloud cover in the Himalayan regions, general cloudiness in the hilly regions, and a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms in some parts of the hilly and Himalayan regions across all provinces, and in one or two locations in the Terai region, along with snowfall.

On Saturday, the Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces will generally be cloudy, while the remaining areas will have partial cloud cover. There is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning, and snowfall in some parts of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, and in a few places in the remaining Himalayan and hilly regions. The department has urged everyone to take precautions against strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning during this period.
