Excavator Operator's Body Recovered from Landslide in Nuwakot, Death Toll Rises to Two

Trishuli. The body of the excavator operator, who was missing after being buried in a landslide during road expansion in Gaujeni, Shivapuri Rural Municipality-3, Nuwakot, was recovered this evening.

With this, the death toll from the landslide has reached two, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikram Lama of the District Police Office. According to him, local resident Phoolman Tamang and excavator operator Amrit Tamang died after being buried in a landslide involving a large boulder that fell from above around 2:00 PM today during the expansion of the local road from Maidan towards Lapsi in Gaujeni.

Thirty-five-year-old Phoolman, who was also the treasurer of the consumer committee for the road construction, was rescued dead from the landslide immediately after the incident.

Security forces, including the Nepali Army, rescued the body of 24-year-old driver Amrit, who went missing along with the excavator after being caught in the landslide, after five hours. The body has been sent to Trishuli Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police stated that they are continuing to search the scene for further damage.
