Investigative Commission Report on August Protests Leaks, Recommending Both Action and Rewards for Senior Police Official

Kathmandu. The report submitted to the government by the investigative commission led by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki regarding the demonstrations on Bhadra 23 and 24 has been 'leaked'. After investigating the incident for about five months, the commission's report recommends action against and rewards for high-ranking security officials.

It has been found that the commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki made two different recommendations concerning Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police, Siddhi Bikram Shah. On page 689 of the report, Shah is recommended for a reward. Conversely, on page 725, a recommendation for action against him is found.

Recommending a reward, the commission wrote, 'Since AIG Shah, who was the Head of Operations Department, successfully kept the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal completely safe by playing a leading role in preventing the attackers from entering the main gate when they attempted to attack the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal and the Bhatbhateni and Hilton Hotel in Naxal on Bhadra 24, the Police Headquarters should reward him.'

His name is also mentioned in the list of Nepal Police officials recommended for disciplinary action. The commission's report recommends departmental action against him. Shah, who was the Head of the Operations Department during the demonstrations on Bhadra 23 and 24, is currently the Executive Director of the National Police Training Academy.
