Man Arrested in Kathmandu for Allegedly Defaming Minor via Social Media

Kathmandu. Police have arrested 22-year-old Ashok Lama on charges of character assassination of a minor using social media. Lama, a permanent resident of Ward No. 8, Namobuddha Municipality, Kavrepalanchok District, and currently residing in Kathmandu, was taken into custody by the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police.

The Bureau initiated a technical investigation based on information that intimate photos and videos of the minor were being circulated via Telegram.

The victimized minor filed a complaint with the Cyber Bureau seeking action after learning from her Instagram friends that her private pictures were being made public.

Technical analysis and investigation conducted by the Bureau revealed Lama's involvement in disseminating those materials. The arrested Lama is being investigated for offenses under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063.

The Bureau arrested him in Kathmandu on Chaitra 8 and presented him before the District Court Kathmandu on Chaitra 9. The court granted permission to keep him in custody for five days for investigation, informed Bureau Spokesperson and Information Officer, Police Superintendent Deepak Raj Awasthi.
