Unseasonal Rain Damages 30 Brick Kilns in Dang, Causing Estimated Loss of Over NPR 75 Million

Dang. Thirty brick industries in the district have suffered damages due to the rainfall last Saturday. According to Rom Wali, the District Chairman of the Brick Entrepreneurs Committee, the unseasonal rain damaged the raw bricks that had been laid out to dry. Entrepreneurs are facing hardship as the bricks kept for drying were soaked by the water and turned back into mud.

Chairman Wali stated that almost all brick industries located in the Tulsipur, Ghorahi, and Deukhuri areas of the district have incurred significant losses. The process of collecting damage details across the district is currently underway. According to preliminary figures, raw bricks worth NPR 10 million have been destroyed in 22 industries in the Tulsipur and Ghorahi areas alone, informed Kewal Khatri, the Treasurer of the committee.

Preliminary reports indicate that eight brick industries in the Deukhuri area have also suffered damage. It is reported that five to six lakh raw bricks were destroyed in each brick industry. Entrepreneurs state that due to the lack of safe arrangements and technology for drying raw bricks, the investment made in operating the brick industries, amounting to millions of rupees, is at risk of being lost.

According to the details received so far, the total damage across the district exceeds NPR 75 million, said Kewal Khatri, Treasurer of the Brick Entrepreneurs Committee. Three thousand laborers are employed in these industries.
