Dry Port Construction Progresses Rapidly in Dodhara Chandani, Kanchanpur

Kanchanpur. The construction of the dry port in Dodhara Chandani, Kanchanpur, is progressing at a rapid pace. Construction began on December 24, 2025, and currently, 4.5 percent physical progress has been achieved.

Anil KC, Engineer at the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee, informed that structural work is underway at the Dodhara Chandani dry port construction site. "The financial progress of the dry port, being built with technical and financial assistance from the Government of India, is 3.5 percent," he said. "Soil filling, wall construction, housing construction, and foundation work for a bridge over the malaria drain are ongoing."

According to Engineer KC, the dry port, being built at a cost of Indian Rupees 2.37 billion, must be completed within thirty months. The felling of 1,705 trees in the Gaurishankar Community Forest in Dodhara Chandani Municipality-1 was previously carried out for the port's construction. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India for the construction of this port on June 1, 2023.

The Government announced the construction of the dry port in Dodhara Chandani, Kanchanpur, in the year 2064 BS. The construction remained uncertain for a long time due to the unavailability of land. "The construction company is using Nepali materials such as stones, soil, gravel, grit, and bricks," Engineer KC stated. "Other construction materials are being imported from India to move the work forward."

The Intermodal Transport Development Committee stated that two warehouse buildings, a quarantine building, a customs inspection building, an immigration building, a security building, and other infrastructure will be constructed on the 42.36 hectares of land designated for the port construction. Access road construction from the Indian side up to the dry port is also ongoing.
