Snowfall Blankets Taplejung's High Peaks After Two Days of Rain

Taplejung. Following two days of rain, the weather has cleared, causing the district's high hills and mountains to appear silvery white.

The Tijure-Milke-Jaljale area in Mewa Khola Rural Municipality has been covered in snow since early morning. The region encompassing Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, along with Kumbhakarna, Pathibhara, and Manabhara, has also turned silvery white. With the weather clearing, the number of domestic tourists visiting to play in the snow has increased.

Heavy snowfall occurred in the high Himalayan regions of Taplejung starting Friday evening. The snowfall, accompanied by rain, has whitened various Himalayan parts of the district. Significant snowfall was reported in Ghunsa and Phale in Lelep, Ward No. 6 of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, and in the Olangchunggola area of Ward No. 7. Locals reported heavy snowfall also occurred in Tokpe Gola of Papung, Ward No. 5 of Mikwakhola Rural Municipality, the upper regions of Mewa Khola and Atharai Triveni Rural Municipalities, the Milke-Jaljale area, and the Timbung Pokhari area of Sidingwa Rural Municipality.

Snowfall has also occurred in the famous pilgrimage site of Pathibhara. According to Rajendra Mahat, an employee of the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, snow has accumulated from Pathibhara Dham to Phedi Bazaar and up to Guranse Danda. Along with the snowfall, the cold has intensified significantly in the Himalayan settlements of the district. Local Phuti Sherpa informed that the cold has increased, especially in settlements like Olangchunggola, Yangma, Phale, and Ghunsa.
