Two Arrested for Gold and Silver Theft in Lalitpur Shortly After Convict's Release

After spending 11 years in the cold cell of a prison, it is generally expected that a person will reform. However, for some individuals, prison life seems to be merely a 'break' before the next crime.

Police have arrested two individuals, including one who was involved in theft shortly after being released from an 11-year prison sentence, along with stolen gold and silver jewelry.

A significant amount of gold and silver jewelry was stolen from the house of Krishna Prasad Shrestha in Siddhipur, Ward No. 6, Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur, on Chaitra 3. Following the daylight robbery, a joint team from the Valley Crime Investigation Office, District Police Range Lalitpur, and the Satdobato Police Circle initiated a detailed investigation.

The special police team, through extensive search and investigation, succeeded in apprehending the main planner and an accomplice involved in the theft from various locations in Kathmandu. Those arrested have been identified as 32-year-old Prem Lama, a resident of Manohara, Kathmandu, originally from Indrawati Rural Municipality Ward No. 4, Sindhupalchok, and 32-year-old Sajan Kumar Shrestha, a resident of Kageshwori Manohara, originally from Bhimeshwor Municipality Ward No. 2, Dolakha.

It has been revealed that Prem Lama, among those arrested, is a 'serial thief.' He has previously served jail time multiple times in cases related to theft and robbery. Police investigation shows that Lama, who was recently released after serving a total of 11 years in prison across various terms, resumed his old profession immediately upon release. Investigating officers were surprised to find that the long stay in prison had brought no reform to him, and he became active in criminal activities again right after leaving jail.

The police recovered various gold and silver ornaments stolen from Krishna Prasad Shrestha's house from the possession of the arrested individuals. Both arrested persons have been placed at the Satdobato Police Circle, and a theft case has been registered against them.

Police stated that further detailed investigation is underway after obtaining a five-day remand order from the Lalitpur District Court.
