Election Commission Submits Federal Parliament Election Report to President, Paving Way for New Government Formation

Kathmandu. After the Election Commission submitted the report concerning the Federal Parliament Election 2082 to President Ramchandra Paudel, the path has been cleared for the formation of a new government and for the Federal Parliament Secretariat to administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected members of parliament.

The Commission handed over the election-related report to the President's Office at Shital Niwas on Thursday afternoon. The Commission stated that the election results would be published in the Nepal Gazette on Friday.

With this development, political parties can now strive to form the new government, and the Parliament Secretariat can proceed with tasks such as administering the oath. Spokesperson Joint Secretary Ekram Giri informed that the Federal Parliament Secretariat has scheduled the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members of parliament for 2 PM on Chaitra 12.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) secured a comfortable majority (two seats short of a two-thirds majority) in the election held on Falgun 21, winning 182 seats. The RSP will prepare to form a single-party government. The party had presented Balen Shah as its candidate for Prime Minister to the voters during the election campaign.

According to experts, since the members of parliament have already received their certificates from the Election Commission, they do not need to wait for the oath ceremony to carry out their duties. Under Article 76 (1) of the Constitution, the President will appoint the leader of the parliamentary party as Prime Minister after the RSP calls a party meeting and elects its leader.
