Election Commission Credits Dialogue for Successful By-election After 'Janjati' Movement

Kathmandu. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari stated that the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21 was accomplished due to discussions and positive dialogue with all parties following the Janjati movement.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari made these remarks on Thursday while addressing the certificate distribution ceremony for the 110 members elected under the Proportional Representation electoral system.

He thanked everyone for their cooperation in completing the election on schedule, overcoming various difficulties and clearing the atmosphere of uncertainty. 

‘This was not a periodic election, but an election declared by the President to protect the constitution following the rebellion of Bhadra 23 and 24’, Bhandari said, ‘The Commission prepared the election schedule amidst fears of bitterness and exclusion, and there was no alternative to the election.’

He stated that the certificate received by the parliamentarians should be seen as the result of the Commission calling all parties for discussion and dialogue with integrity. Congratulating the newly elected parliamentarians, he expressed the expectation that they would now formulate the statute and policies to run the country. ‘This will help bring the agitated mindset back into rhythm’, Bhandari added.
