Man Arrested for Defaming Woman Using Fake Facebook Accounts

The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested a young man involved in character assassination of a woman using fake social media accounts on Facebook.

Tapendra Bista, 23, a permanent resident of Ghodaghodi Municipality-1, Kailali, currently residing in Nayabazar, Kathmandu, has been taken into custody by the police.

A complaint was registered at the Bureau after defamatory and indecent materials using the victim woman's photograph were being circulated on social media for some time. Investigation revealed that Bista caused mental stress and harassment to the woman by publishing obscene video materials, dubbed the 'Holi incident,' linking them to the victim's name.

Bista was arrested from Kathmandu on Chaitra 2 after technical investigation and analysis conducted by the Cyber Bureau confirmed his involvement. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested Bista under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063.

Police Superintendent and Spokesperson Deepak Raj Awasthi informed that further investigation is underway with a three-day remand extended by the Kathmandu District Court.
