Kathmandu Metropolitan City Initiates Dry Waste Management to Reduce Load on Banchare Danda Landfill

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started separate dry waste management with the aim of reducing the volume of garbage sent to the Banchare Danda landfill. For this purpose, the metropolis has begun the process of separate dry waste management in 10 wards.

The Metropolis has classified its geographical area into seven zones to sell the dry waste generated alongside household garbage from all 32 wards, awarding the revenue contract through separate bidding processes for an annual total of NPR 60.872 million, she stated.

Currently, dry waste management has begun in Wards 7, 12, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 27 of the Metropolis. A dry waste management center has been established along with a solid waste transfer center in each zone. As per the Revenue Contract Procedure 2079, Nepsemac Sewa Pvt. Ltd. was selected for Zone No. 1 through competitive bidding. This zone includes Wards 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.

Practical Waste Solution Pvt. Ltd. was selected for Zone No. 2, which includes Wards 1, 11, 28, 29, and 30. In Zone No. 3, Creative Safai Pvt. Ltd. bid an annual revenue contract of NPR 5,535,891. This zone includes Wards 6, 8, and 9.

Mechi Poly Industry bid NPR 11.504404 million for Zone No. 4, which includes Wards 16, 17, and 26. Zone No. 5, comprising Wards 13, 14, and 15, has been assigned to Nepal Energy Development Company.

Zone No. 6 includes Wards 10, 31, and 32. Poly Waste Management has taken responsibility for this zone.
