Forest Fires Cause Significant Damage in Jumla District

Jumla. Forest area covering 330.28 hectares was damaged by wildfires in the district during the last fiscal year. According to Bharat Budhathapa, Chief of the Division Forest Office, forest fires occurred in 29 locations that year, causing estimated damage to approximately 330.28 hectares of forest land.

In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, fires have occurred in six different locations across all eight local levels here. The estimated forest damage from these fires covers an area of 100 hectares, stated Budhathapa, Chief of the Division Forest Office, Jumla.

Speaking at an interaction program on forest security coordination committee and stakeholders organized by the office, Office Chief Budhapa informed that various programs related to forest fire control will be conducted in Jumla from Chaitra 1 to 7 under the main theme of 'Effectiveness in Forest Fire Control, Participation of Three Tiers of Government and Community,' as informed by Budhapa, Chief of the Division Forest Office, Jumla.

The annual wildfires during the summer season continue to cause damage to forest areas. Controlling fires in remote areas inaccessible to fire engines presents a challenge. Assistant Chief District Officer Min Bahadur Rawal stated that community involvement plays a crucial role in forest conservation.
