Nepal's Envoy to UN Stresses Multilateralism for Least Developed Countries' Progress

Kathmandu. Lok Bahadur Thapa, Chairman of the Group of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Nepal's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated that the United Nations is indispensable for advancing multilateral cooperation and ensuring development achievements for the countries that are most lagging in development.

According to Nepal's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, Ambassador Thapa expressed this view during an ambassadorial-level meeting with the co-chairs of the informal ad hoc working group on the review of the implementation of the Programme of Action.

In the meeting, he reiterated the LDC Group's full support for the implementation process of the Programme of Action, emphasizing that reforms within the United Nations must further strengthen its development pillar.

Ambassador Thapa stated that ensuring adequate resources and effective implementation of the Programme of Action are necessary for LDCs to achieve measurable results.

The mission noted that he appreciated the significant role played by the Office of the High Representative for the LDCs, Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States in advancing the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action and promoting the development priorities of the world's most vulnerable nations.
