One Dead, 11 Injured as Scorpio Vehicle Strikes Wedding Procession in Sarlahi, Nepal

Sarlahi. One person has died and 11 others have been injured after a Scorpio vehicle struck a wedding procession crowd in Sitapur, Barahathwa Municipality-10, Sarlahi.

The Scorpio with license plate DL9CZO777, traveling from Barahathwa towards Sitapur, hit the wedding attendees around 7 PM on Friday, according to Sarlahi Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Rai, who spoke to Ratopati.

Narayana Jargamagar, approximately 50 years old, a resident of Barahathwa Municipality-9, who was critically injured in the accident, was rushed to the municipal hospital in Barahathwa for treatment. However, he was pronounced dead around 8 PM during treatment.

Eleven people from Rautahat and Sarlahi were injured in the accident. Among the injured, 70-year-old Kamal Patel, a resident of Dostia Pipariya in Rautahat, sustained a serious head injury, while 45-year-old Bandhana Patel from Gadhimai Municipality-11 is undergoing treatment while unconscious.

Similarly, Rupesh Mandal (18), Pratima Kumari Patel (15), Dilip Rai (19), Chandan Paswan (23), Deepika Jaiswal (12), Ramji Rai (20), Mukesh Raut (23), Ramnarayan Thakur (55), and Gulabkumari Mandal (45) from Barahathwa-10 were also injured.

The police stated that the injured are being treated at Hanumant Nagar and Advance Hospital in Barahathwa.

Following the accident, the police took the Scorpio vehicle and the driver, Naresh Thakur from Laukath, Barahathwa Municipality-12, into custody.

The District Police Office, Sarlahi, stated that further investigation into the incident is underway.
