Protest Held in Kathmandu Demanding Strict Action Against Perpetrators in Rape and Murder of 16-Year-Old Girl in Surkhet

A demonstration was held in Kathmandu demanding strict action against those involved in the gang rape and subsequent murder of 16-year-old Inisa B.K. from Birendranagar, Surkhet. Gathering at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Friday, they pressed the government for stringent action against those involved in the heinous crime and to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

Social activist Kavita Chand Sodari stated that they had to hold the government accountable to ensure that heinous crimes like murder and rape do not happen again, even if it requires amending the law. She also expressed anger, voicing suspicion that responsible government bodies themselves protect those involved in such heinous crimes.

Social activist Sodari said, 'This rape incident that occurred in Surkhet. This is a very pathetic situation. When such incidents happen repeatedly, one can speculate that the criminals are becoming emboldened. This incident shows a very heinous crime. We organized this social protest to demand that responsible government bodies implement policy-level corrections to eradicate the elements that cover up various incidents in cases of such heinous crimes.'

Protesters also displayed placards with slogans such as 'Give Justice to Inisa,' and 'Stop Rape, Violence, and Murder Against Girls.' They also expressed the view that the government needs to enact strict legal provisions to end all forms of violence against women.
