Chitwan Records Extremely Heavy Rainfall, Weather Department Issues Updates

Kathmandu. Chitwan recorded extremely heavy rainfall of 126 millimeters in the last 12 hours. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Gorkha and Udayapur also experienced rainfall close to extremely heavy levels after Chitwan.

According to the data recorded at the department's monitoring stations, Gorkha received 81.2 millimeters of rain, while Udayapur recorded 90 millimeters. The Department of Meteorology defines rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters as extremely heavy rainfall. Lamjung also recorded 76 millimeters of rain.

Heavy rainfall was measured in several other districts as well. Ilam recorded 50 mm, Jhapa 54.4 mm, Sindhupalchowk 45.6 mm, and Nuwakot 43 mm. All these stations registered heavy rainfall.

More than two dozen other monitoring stations recorded less than 20 millimeters of rain. Rainfall is currently ongoing in districts including Ilam, Jhapa, Sindhuli, Dolakha, Nuwakot, and Lamjung. It has stopped in some districts, including Chitwan.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division of the department, Nepal is currently under the partial influence of a western low-pressure system, a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, and a low-pressure area near the eastern parts of Nepal.

Currently, the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces are generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, is occurring in a few places in the Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Tonight and Friday's situation

Tonight, the country will generally be cloudy, with a possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms in some places in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and one or two places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

On Friday, the sky will generally be cloudy in Koshi province and the remaining hilly and mountainous regions, while the rest of the areas will have partial cloud cover. There is a possibility of light rain and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms in a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi province, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, one or two places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, and the Terai regions of Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
