Nepal Medical Council Uncovers Illegal Dental Clinic Operations Run by Unqualified Staff in Siraha

Siraha. A serious fact has been uncovered where treatment was being carried out by non-physicians during an unscheduled on-site inspection conducted by the Nepal Medical Council at various dental clinics in Lahan on Wednesday.

The team, led by Dr. Ajay Kumar Sah, Coordinator of the Professional Conduct and Health Committee under the Nepal Medical Council, inspected some dental clinics operating in the Hospital Chowk area of Lahan-3.

The Council stated that during the inspection, it was found that treatment services were being operated without qualified specialist physicians at Himal Dental Clinic, Radha Krishna Dental Clinic, and West Radha Dental Clinic. It was discovered that patients were being treated solely based on personnel who had studied 'Dental Hygienist' for about two and a half years.

According to the Council, it was also found that some operators were displaying the names of other physicians on the board while treating patients at will, forging physicians' signatures, and operating clinics in violation of prevailing health acts, regulations, and standards.

Upon receiving information about the inspection team's arrival, the operator of Sagarmatha Dental Clinic closed the clinic and fled. Dr. Ajay Kumar Sah, the team coordinator, stated that operating a dental clinic without a qualified physician is a serious legal violation.

He said, "Operating a dental clinic without a qualified physician is not only against the law but also poses a direct risk to the health and lives of the general public. Based on the complaints received, we have conducted on-site inspections to identify such illegal clinics, and legal action will be initiated against the culprits according to prevailing laws."

Dr. Sah was accompanied by experts Dr. Rajiv Sharma and Dr. Suman Karna in the inspection team. The Council announced that it will continue such inspections in various locations in the coming days.
