Nepali Parliamentary Candidate Discloses Campaign Spending, Highlighting Food and Fuel Costs

Kathmandu. Dr. Raksha Kumar Rai, who contested for the House of Representatives seat from Sunsari Constituency-1, has made public his election expenditure. According to the details submitted to the Election Commission, he spent a total of NPR 40,740 during his election campaign.

His main expenditure categories include petrol, various types of chowmein and momo, and beverages. According to the expense details, Dr. Rai spent on 50 liters of oil, 10 plates of chicken chowmein, 12 plates of pork jhol momo, 20 plates of chicken steam momo, and 6 plates of pork barbecue. For beverages, expenses were shown for 5 bottles of Coke, 15 bottles of 'Extreme', 10 bottles of almond juice, and 10 bottles of water.

Apart from snacks, he reported spending NPR 15,000 on one hundred simple meals and NPR 8,250 on 50 liters of petrol.

The 39-year-old Dr. Rai received a total of 17 votes in this election. Harkasampang, the candidate from the Shram Sanskriti Party in the same constituency, won with 35,741 votes.

Dr. Rai announced that he did not spend on ostentatious campaigning and declared that the saved amount would be used for youth employment. In the form note submitted to the Commission, he mentioned cutting down on unnecessary physical promotional materials and using that money to create employment for the youth.
