Man Arrested in Taplejung for Cruelly Killing Monkey with Dogs and Posting Video Online

Taplejung. Police have arrested a young man for posting a video on social media showing him cruelly killing a monkey by trapping it and setting dogs upon it. 

The arrested individual has been identified as 21-year-old Sangam alias Chappu Hembya, a resident of Ward No. 2 Singhpur in Hilihang Rural Municipality, Panchthar, currently residing in Thechambu, Ward No. 2 of Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality, Taplejung. 

According to a press release issued by Jata Shankar Yadav, Information Officer and Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Taplejung, various bodies and organizations expressed serious concern after a video showing a monkey being tortured and killed by dogs was made public on social media. Following this matter drawing attention, the police initiated an investigation. 

Police investigation revealed that the incident occurred before the House of Representatives elections. Police stated that the video was posted on social media after dogs were set upon monkeys caught in a trap set up to protect crops in the field. 

The District Police Office, Taplejung, stated that the accused Hembya, involved in this case of animal cruelty, has been arrested and further necessary investigation is underway.
