Pregnant Woman Gives Birth on Road While Being Carried to Health Post in Remote Bajura Village

Dhangadhi. A pregnant woman in a remote village of Bajura gave birth to her child on the road before reaching a health facility.

Andala 22-year-old Dula Bhandari from Bhaisagad, Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality-2, was being carried by her family towards the Basic Health Unit in Fayalgaun when labor pains struck. She gave birth on the way before reaching the hospital.

While heading to the health facility, which is about an hour to an hour and a half's walk from the house, she experienced unbearable pain. Due to the helpless agony, she could not move forward.

Upon receiving the news, health worker ANM Bisna Rokaya, working at the health unit, rushed to the scene and safely conducted the delivery on the road. Because timely support from the health worker was available, both the mother and the newborn baby's lives were saved. Both have now returned home in a healthy condition.

According to Ward Number 2 Chairman Bishnu Bahadur Budha, this situation arose because they could not reach the hospital on time due to difficult geography and the distance to the health facility.

'Although a dirt road has been constructed in the village, vehicles do not run there all the time, nor is there an ambulance facility. Because of this, the pregnant women of the village are forced to carry them on foot, risking their lives, to take them to the health facility for delivery,' he said.
