Karnali Province Election Sees Four-Way Contest, Many Candidates Fail to Secure 100 Votes

Surkhet. This time, Karnali Province witnessed a special four-way electoral competition. The contest was between the three old political parties: Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), and the new political party, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

In previous elections, the competition was among the three old parties, but this time RSP not only participated but also managed to win one out of 12 seats.

In Surkhet, Dailekh, and Salyan, RSP came in second place. In these areas, parties like RPP and NWPP used to secure the third or fourth positions by gathering votes, but this time RSP occupied that spot. Amidst the four-way competition, some candidates were seen who could not even secure 100 votes.

Out of the 138 candidates who contested across the province, 36 candidates failed to secure 100 votes.

In Jajarkot, among the 11 candidates, 5 could not even secure 100 votes. Karna Bahadur Nepali of Ujyalo Nepal received 67 votes, Ratna Khadka of Rastriya Janamorcha received 55, Megh Bahadur Oli of Pralopa received 38, Dhaniram Jaisi of NWPP received 25, and Kaman Budha of Mongol National Organization received only 9 votes.

In Salyan, where there were 14 candidates, 4 candidates could not cross the 100-vote mark. The NWPP candidate here received only 66 votes.

In Dolpa, with 9 candidates, only 3 managed to cross 100 votes. Those who did not cross 100 votes include Hari Dangi of RPP (92), independent Omedra Oli (54), Bikash Budha of Pralopa (21), Dil Bahadur Bista of Ujyalo Nepal (11), and Junu Bhandari of Miteri Party (2). In Mugu, among 7 candidates, Aitan Kumal Malla of Pralopa received only 22 votes, while in Jumla, Birkh Shahi of Biplav Maoist received 71 votes, Ranil Bikram Shahi of Janata Party received 43 votes, and independent candidate Bhakta Rawal received only 14 votes.

In Kalikot, two independent candidates also failed to secure 100 votes. In Dailekh 1, Nar Bahadur Singh of Janamorcha received 91 votes, Log Bahadur Bogati received 29, and Mena Shrestha of Aam Janata received 16 votes.

Similarly, in Dailekh 2, 3 candidates could not even cross 50 votes. Likewise, 2 candidates in Surkhet 1 and 7 candidates in Surkhet 2 did not cross 100 votes.

In Rukum West, 4 candidates did not cross 100 votes.
