Security Deposits Forfeited for Nine Candidates in Rukum West House Election

Rukum West. The security deposits of nine out of 12 candidates in Rukum West have been forfeited. In the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21, the deposits of nine candidates were forfeited because they failed to secure 10 percent of the total valid votes, as per Section 71 (1) of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074. Assistant Election Officer Mandira Shahi informed that the security deposits of nine candidates were forfeited for failing to secure 10 percent of the total valid votes.

Out of 62,967 votes cast in the district, a total of 59,523 votes were declared valid. Since nine candidates failed to secure 10 percent of this total, which is 5,953 votes, their security deposits were forfeited. The candidates whose security deposits (bail/deposit) were forfeited include Man Bahadur Shahi of Rastriya Swatantra Party, Nandaram Devkota of CPN (UML), Chandra Bahadur Budha of CPN (Maoist Centre), Gopal Khadka of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Satyanarayan Shrestha of Rastriya Janamorcha, Narendra KC of Ujyalo Nepal Party, Sher Bahadur KC of CPN (Samajwadi), Prema Damai Nepali of Aam Janata Party, and Dhan Bahadur Kiki of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party.

Rastriya Swatantra Party's Shahi received 4,076 votes, CPN (UML)'s Devkota received 1,869, CPN (Maoist Centre)'s Budha received 366, Rastriya Prajatantra Party's Khadka received 228, Rastriya Janamorcha's Shrestha received 170, Ujyalo Nepal Party's KC received 84, CPN (Samajwadi)'s KC received 54, Aam Janata Party's Nepali received 45, and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party's Biki received 15 votes.

Gopal Sharma of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) who won from Rukum West secured 21,609 votes, Nepali Congress candidate Raju KC received 16,661 votes, and Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party candidate Janardan Sharma received 14,346 votes. According to Section 7(1) of the Election Act, candidates participating in the direct election are required to deposit a security amount of Rs 10,000.
