Rastriya Swatantra Party's Dhanendra Karki Wins Sindhuli Constituency-1 House of Representatives Seat

Dhanendra Karki of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has won the election in Sindhuli Constituency-1 for the House of Representatives.

RSP's Karki was elected by securing 16,659 votes.

Sindhuli-1 comprises Golanjor Rural Municipality, Phikkal Rural Municipality, Tinpatan Rural Municipality, Dudhauli Municipality, and Wards 9, 13, and 14 of Kamalamai Municipality. Karki of the RSP secured a victory in this constituency, traditionally considered a stronghold for the Nepali Congress-CPN-UML alliance.

Historically, the winners in this constituency were Madan Dhungel of UML in 2048 BS, Bipin Koirala of Congress in 2051 BS, Ganga Prasad Nepal of UML in 2056 BS, Bishamlal Adhikari of UML in 2064 BS, Ganesh Kumar Pahadi of CPN-UML in 2070 BS, the same Pahadi in 2074 BS, and Shyam Kumar Ghimire of Congress in 2079 BS.

However, Karki's victory this time saw his closest competitor, Pradip Kumar Katuwal of UML, secure 15,875 votes. Similarly, Congress candidate Ujjwal Baral received 15,570 votes, while CPN candidate Dekendra Prasad Subedi garnered 4,708 votes.

Who is Karki?

The elected Karki was an aspirant for the ward chairman position in 2074 BS. After competing in the local level elections that year, he later organized with the RSP. Karki, who has been associated with the RSP since its formation in Sindhuli, has served as the party's regional chairman.

He previously contested for the RSP chairmanship in Sindhuli but was defeated through a lottery system after tying in votes with his competitor. He is a transport entrepreneur.
