CPN-UML Vice Chairman Warns Election Results Could Create National Problems

Pokhara. CPN-UML Vice Chairman Prithvi Subba Gurung has stated that the current election results could potentially create problems in the country.

 Reacting on Saturday after being defeated in the Lamjung House of Representatives election, he said, 'It seems they will secure a two-thirds majority. This itself could be a problem for our country.'

He suggested that the votes received should be addressed with prudence. 'It is necessary for them to commit regarding constitutional amendments. Are they trying to abolish federalism? What is their stance on the inclusive electoral system?' he questioned, adding, 'If they try to force things without a national consensus, another conflict will start in the country.'

Gurung commented that in this election, voters cast their ballots based only on the factor of 'newness' rather than on agendas. 'Every election has its own agenda. Each party has its stance on nationalism, development, good governance, and the constitution,' he added. 'But in this election, the issue of solving people's problems was never raised. There was no discussion on what the agenda for development and good governance is. Just being new is not enough.'

He emphasized that decisions on constitution implementation and national issues must be made only on the basis of consensus among all parties.
