Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa Votes in Kathmandu, Reflects on Madhesh Experience

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa cast his vote at the Maitidevi Temple polling center in Kathmandu for the House of Representatives election.

Thapa, who is a candidate from Sarlahi Constituency No. 4 in this election, spoke to journalists immediately after voting in Kathmandu on Thursday, stating that his time spent in the Madhesh region has broadened and matured his political perspective.

He mentioned that while doing politics in Kathmandu for a long time, he realized he understood only a small percentage of the country, a feeling that emerged after visiting the Madhesh region. He noted that spending the last 10-12 days of the election campaign in the Madhesh gave him the opportunity to closely understand the society, diversity, and structure there.

'The knowledge and information I had about the country while doing politics from Kathmandu for so many years was only a small percentage,' Thapa told journalists, 'I now understand many things, including the diversity and structure of the society there, and I have received the opportunity to represent it. This will make the role I play in national politics even more mature.'

Thapa claimed that the experience in Madhesh has made him a complete national leader. He stated that his political understanding would have remained incomplete had he not gone to the Madhesh.

'I have experience of the hills, I have years of experience in Kathmandu, but experiencing the Madhesh makes me complete,' Thapa said, 'If I hadn't gone to the Madhesh, what I understand today would not even be half of my politics.'

He also expressed his commitment to viewing all regions with an equal perspective in policy-making and decision-making processes if he gets the opportunity to represent them. Elections for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies are being held across the country on Thursday.
