Man Arrested in Sunsari for Spreading False Election Rumors on Facebook

Sunsari. Sunsari police have arrested a young man on charges of spreading false rumors related to the election through the social media platform Facebook. The arrested individual has been identified as 27-year-old Ramchandra Thakur, a resident of Mahendra Chowk, Ward No. 3, Inaruwa Municipality, Sunsari.

According to a press release issued by the District Police Office, Sunsari, Thakur used a Facebook ID named Ramchandra Thakur to upload and share videos with the intention of directly influencing the House of Representatives election.

He was apprehended from his location at Mahendra Chowk in Inaruwa with technical assistance from the Nepal Police Headquarters, Cyber Bureau, Kathmandu. The police also recovered the mobile device used to spread the rumors.

Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chandra Bahadur Khadka stated that Thakur is currently being held at the District Police Office, Sunsari, for further investigation.
