Filmmaker Vishal Bhandari Writes Open Letter to Nepali Congress Leader Gagan Thapa on Political Shift and Youth Expectations

Kathmandu. Director and comedian Bishal Bhandari has drawn serious attention to the changing political landscape and the expectations of the younger generation by writing an open letter to Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa. Writing an open letter on social media, he suggested that Thapa rise above critical politics and present a blueprint for policy-based development.

Bhandari commented that there is a huge difference between the fearless Gagan Thapa who wrestled with top leaders during the 2062/63 People's Movement and the current 'Gagan 2.0'. Bhandari writes, 'Our generation (90s kids) knows you are a revolutionary leader within the Congress,' adding, 'But where has that Gagan disappeared now? Perhaps burdened by responsibility, please bring back that zeal.' He also expressed the youth's grievance that Gagan did not raise a strong voice for justice for the young martyrs of Bhadra 23 and 24.

'This election is full of challenges for you. If things go up or down in the election, some leaders within your own party are waiting for a chance to revive the old Congress. It is in your hands whether or not to let that intention succeed,' he continued, 'It is also necessary for the country that a leader like you is in the parliament building this time with a significant number of seats. You haven't crossed 50. You are still young. Having come from student politics, you also have experience.'

Bhandari also argues that Gagan should be in the parliament building to teach how to balance experience and zeal.
