Election Commission Assures Readiness for Free, Fair House of Representatives Polls

Kathmandu. Election Commission Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut has stated that the commission is fully prepared to conduct the House of Representatives election in a clean, impartial, and reliable environment.

During a special briefing organized for the diplomatic community, he informed that all managerial tasks related to the election have reached the final stage. According to Secretary Raut, a total of 17.9 million voters will participate in this election.

Of these, 49 percent are women and 51 percent are men. A total of 10,967 polling stations and 23,112 polling centers have been designated across the country for voting. Furthermore, 143 temporary polling centers have been arranged for temporary voters to cast their ballots for the proportional representation electoral system.

Secretary Raut informed that 215,000 personnel have been mobilized to make the election secure and organized. Monitoring committees at the district level and teams led by the Chief Election Officers are active in enforcing the election code of conduct.

To make voter education effective and reduce the number of invalid votes, 6,743 ward-level volunteers have been mobilized for 15 days. To maintain transparency and financial discipline in election expenditures, it has been made mandatory for political parties and candidates to open separate election publicity accounts.

Addressing queries from representatives of diplomatic missions, Secretary Raut mentioned that counting will begin immediately after voting concludes, and results are expected within 1 to 3 days in areas other than remote regions. He clarified that passes for foreign journalists will be provided through the Department of Information and Broadcasting, and special security and coordination arrangements have been made for observers. Stating that elections are the cornerstone of democracy, Secretary Raut expressed gratitude for the support and goodwill received from neighboring and friendly nations. —News Agency Nepal
