Nepali Congress Candidate Ramps Up Campaign in Kathmandu-9 Ahead of By-election

Kathmandu. Electoral fervor is intensifying in Kathmandu Constituency No. 9 for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21. Twenty-four candidates, including those from various political parties and independents, are contesting in this constituency, with the activism of Nepali Congress Central Committee member Nanu Bastola (Nanumaiya) significantly increasing.

Bastola stated that the new enthusiasm among party workers following the special general convention has given her further energy. She says, 'As a permanent resident of this very constituency, I have closely understood the joys, sorrows, and needs of the people here. My main goal now is to take those public problems and voices to the parliament and address them through legislation.'

Since Kathmandu-9 includes the busy Kalanki-Thankot entry point, Bastola has put forward plans for the improvement of this area. Her plans include developing the area as a 'Connecting Hub' to provide long-term solutions for traffic jams and construct well-equipped parking facilities, build alternative roads, properly manage the vegetable market and settlements along the riverbanks, conserve and promote the historic Teku and Bishnudevi Ghats, and commit to controlling corruption and ensuring transparency in government services.

The main competitors for Bastola in this constituency are Dol Prasad Aryal (DP) of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Ajaykranti Shakya of CPN-UML. Furthermore, the Communist Party of Nepal has fielded Radhakrishna Maharjan.

In the previous election, Krishna Gopal Shrestha of CPN-UML was victorious in this constituency. The changed political equation and the presence of new faces have made the outcome in Kathmandu-9 very interesting.

Bastola expressed confidence in her victory this time due to the strong representation of women and the youth generation.
