Government Declares Three-Day Public Holiday for Upcoming House of Representatives Election; Approves Several Other Decisions

Kathmandu. The government has decided to grant a three-day public holiday across the country in connection with the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.

Government Spokesperson and Home Minister, Om Prakash Aryal, while making public the decisions of the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday on Wednesday, informed that the decision was made to grant a public holiday nationwide from Falgun 20 to 22.

Relief for Security Personnel
It was decided that the Government of Nepal will bear the entire treatment cost if police personnel are injured, and financial assistance will be provided to the dependent family if any security personnel die during that period.

Tax Exemption for Kalanki-Basundhara Road Expansion
The government has decided to grant tax exemptions on matters mentioned in the project implementation agreement for the 'Kalanki to Basundhara' section under the Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project, which is to be constructed and upgraded with grant assistance from the Government of China.

Regarding the Foreign Minister's Visit to Bangladesh
The cabinet endorsed (approved) the visit of the Foreign Minister, representing the Government of Nepal, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tareque Rahman, from Falgun 4 to 7.

Extension of Term for Red Cross Ad-hoc Committee
It was decided to continue the ad-hoc committee of the Central Working Committee of the Nepal Red Cross Society until the end of Ashadh, 2083 BS. The government also decided to issue an order to remove obstacles so that a new working committee can be formed within the same period.

Extension of Term for Transport Investigation Commission
The working period of the commission formed to investigate the implementation of the Supreme Court's orders related to the transport sector has been extended by one month.

Approval to Participate in International Conference
The government approved the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki's participation in the '21st Interpol Annual Heads of NCB Conference' to be held in France from Chaitra 25 to 27.

Permission to Participate in Forum in India
The government granted permission to the Additional Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department, Om Prakash Joshi, to participate in the 'Raisina Insights Forum 2026' to be held in India on Bhadra 18 and 19, 2082 BS.

Regarding the Title Awarded by the British King
Government Spokesperson and Home Minister Aryal informed that the government decided to grant approval to Hitman Gurung to receive the 'Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' title awarded by the King of the United Kingdom.
