Former Chief Justice Stresses Need for Evidence-Based Lawmaking, Citing Leprosy Study

Kathmandu. Former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha has stated that the process of lawmaking should not be subject to speculation. He clarified this while speaking at a discussion program organized by the Nepal Law Society and the unveiling of a detailed study report in the field of leprosy.

Former Chief Justice Shrestha also cautioned that laws become unfit for implementation when relevant stakeholders are not involved in their creation. He pointed out the fact that superstition-based lawmaking has caused problems in leprosy eradication. Former Chief Justice Shrestha emphasized that laws must be formulated only after intimate consultation with the concerned parties.

Former Chief Justice Shrestha also stated that the fact that leprosy can be eradicated and that those affected can contribute to society and the nation should not be forgotten.
