Maintenance Underway at Marsyangdi Hydropower Center, Power Generation Halted

Tanahun. Maintenance work is in full swing on the structures including the dam, tunnel, and powerhouse of the Marsyangdi Hydropower Center located in Ambukhairani of the district. The center has stated that electricity generation from the 69-megawatt hydropower facility has currently stopped.

Center employee Shailendra Bhatta informed that the maintenance work was initiated by halting electricity generation for 22 days starting from Falgun 2. Mechanics and laborers have been brought in from various projects including Kaligandaki to carry out the repairs. He said, "The work is being done because sand has accumulated in the dam, requiring cleaning, and the gates were on the verge of collapse."

The tunnel and other structures also needed maintenance. He added, "We have stopped production until the coming 22nd after giving prior notice from the office." The center has indicated plans to resume electricity generation from the project starting on Falgun 22. The Marsyangdi Hydropower Project, which began operation in B.S. 2042, has been generating 69 megawatts of electricity from its three turbines.
