Medical Entrepreneur Durga Prasai Will Not Be Released Today Despite Supreme Court Order

Kathmandu. Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai will not be released today. Although the Supreme Court ordered the release of Prasai, the coordinator of the Campaign to Save the Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens, the Kathmandu Police decided not to release him, citing the need to 'complete the procedure'.

SSP Ramesh Thapa of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, told Ratopati that he would be released on Wednesday after reaching an agreement with the government attorney's office. He said, 'As per the Supreme Court's order, we will release him on Wednesday after consulting with the government attorney.'

Citing the provision of Section 15 of the Muluki Criminal Procedure Code-2074, which requires obtaining consent from the government attorney to release Prasai, the police decided to keep him in custody today because the office hours had ended.

Prasai was arrested on Falgun 4 and the police were investigating him for the offense against public peace. Hearing the habeas corpus writ, Supreme Court Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Meghraj Pokharel ordered his release.

Prasai is being held in the custody of the District Police Range located in Bhadrakali.
