Indefinite Curfew Imposed in Birgunj Metropolitan City Amid Security Concerns

Parsa. Following a serious deterioration in the security situation in the Birgunj Metropolitan City area of Parsa, local administration has issued an indefinite curfew order starting this Monday morning. The District Administration Office, Parsa, citing the latest security circumstances, imposed a prohibitory order in the main areas of the metropolis effective from 9:45 AM.

The order issued by Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal completely bans the movement and assembly of the general public until further notice.

The administration has also clearly demarcated the boundaries of the curfew area. Accordingly, the curfew has been imposed in the entire area within the East Bypass Road, West Sirsiya River, North Gandak Chowk, and South Shankracharya Gate near the Nepal-India border. Strict measures have been taken under Section 6(A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, prohibiting anyone from moving, organizing any kind of procession, holding assemblies, meetings, or engaging in siege activities within this boundary.

Despite the curfew order, the administration has made exemptions for humanitarian sensitivity and essential services. Vehicles carrying ambulances, fire engines, hearses, and health workers will be allowed to move freely. The press release also mentioned that security personnel will facilitate movement for journalists, examinees and staff attending pre-scheduled university exams, tourist vehicles, and vehicles of diplomatic missions.

The administration has adopted a policy of not obstructing the movement of passengers holding air tickets so that their travel is not affected.

It is understood that the administration had to take this harsh decision due to recent developments that have increased security challenges in Birgunj and indicated a potential threat to social harmony. A large number of security personnel have now been deployed in the main squares and alleys of Birgunj.

A warning has also been issued that strict legal action will be taken against anyone violating the order.
