Clashes Erupt in Gaur, Rautahat Following Dispute Involving Wedding Procession Near Mosque

Kathmandu. The district headquarters of Rautahat, Gaur, has become tense following a dispute between two communities. The conflict began three days ago when people from the Hindu community, who were part of a wedding procession, approached near a mosque. Clashes are currently taking place in Gaur on Saturday.

During the clash between the two groups, three vehicles and two motorcycles were set on fire in Gaur, DSP Bishnu Pradip Basnyal of the Rautahat District Police Office told Ratopati. He added, 'Clashes also occurred on Friday.'

Clashes have been occurring continuously for two days between two groups in Sabagada village, Gaur Municipality-6. The police are attempting to bring the situation under control. The angry groups also vandalized a petrol pump in Gaur.

The main festival of Muslims, Ramadan, began on Falgun 8. During this festival, Muslim followers observe a day-long fast without food and water from sunrise to sunset for one month and offer prayers (Namaz). Muslims finish their regular work and go to the mosque during the day to offer Namaz for one month. During this festival, fasting is observed without even drinking water from sunrise to sunset.
