Kathmandu Metropolitan City to Manage Parking and Security at Newly Constructed Dharahara Site

Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) will take charge of managing vehicle parking and security within the newly constructed structures at the historic Dharahara site. A joint meeting between the Government of Nepal and the KMC held in Sundhara on Friday decided to deploy the Metropolitan Police Force to make parking operations effective.

The meeting also formed a joint committee comprising officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and the KMC to prepare immediate and long-term plans for the operation of Dharahara. This committee will study and submit suggestions regarding the project's operational modality.  

KMC's Acting Chief Sunita Dangol informed that the responsibility for the appropriate management of the external structure of Dharahara has been given to the KMC, adding that a request has been made to the government for the complete handover of the overall Dharahara operation to the KMC.

Minister for Urban Development Kumar Thapa informed that an agreement has been reached for the KMC to bear the entire financial responsibility for managing the external appearance of Sundhara. He mentioned that the KMC will immediately start the work of parking and security, and stated that the committee will work to prepare the necessary modality for the management handover as per the KMC's demand.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and representatives from concerned bodies were present during the discussion. With this decision, it is expected that the parking problem in the Sundhara area will be resolved, and security and cleanliness in the Dharahara premises will improve.
