Nepali Congress Pledges to Include Non-Resident Nepali Athletes in National Teams

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has set a goal to include Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) players in Nepal's national teams. This was mentioned in the manifesto of the Nepali Congress, made public by party president Gagan Kumar Thapa on Thursday.

The manifesto states, 'We will enact legal provisions to enhance the spirit of Nepali identity and promote the overall development of Nepal's sports sector by enabling Non-Resident Nepali youth to participate in national and international sports competitions in Nepal.'

In light of the recent emigration of players from the Nepali national team, sports enthusiasts expect this move to bring significance to Nepal's sports development.

While other countries around the world see athletes from abroad representing their nations, Nepal lacks this provision, preventing second and third-generation young athletes in the diaspora from representing the country.

The Congress manifesto clearly states that the existing Sports Development Act will need to be amended for this purpose.
